This product has been temporarily removed from sale as direct result of the Consumer Goods (Products Containing Button/Coin Batteries) Safety Standard 2020 which becomes enforceable on 22nd June 2022 and carries fines of up to $1million. 

All products that contain a button cell or coin type battery must be safety tested to confirm they comply with these new regulations. All button cell batteries must be in a new type of packaging with new labels. 

We are working with all of our suppliers to confirm this compliance before we make the product available for sale again. 

We should have had 18 months to get this compliance but sadly the ACCC did not inform our suppliers or us or pretty much any other industry and we only found out about this new law 4 weeks ago.

Most Audi vehicles using this style of key fob have 2 different types - PROXIMITY FOB OR NON-PROXIMITY FOB

A proximity fob will allow you to start the vehicle by pressing the Start/Stop button when the key is anywhere inside the vehicle (so in your bag or your pocket etc). You can also lock or unlock the car by simply touching the sensor on the drivers door handle.

A non-proximity fob must be placed in the slot in the dash to allow you to start the vehicle. You must also press the button on the fob to unlock or lock the car.

This non-proximity remote fob uses a PCF7954AC HITAG2 transponder chip

It is important to note that for some late models of the above vehicles, the immobiliser data may be stored on an encrypted BCM on the vehicle and so normal programming of a spare key will not be possible. The only way to know for certain is to connect a scan tool to the vehicle and check the type of BCM present. The vehicles highlighted in red above ar those most commonly fitted with an encyypted BCM.

The process to add a key to a vehicle with an encrypted BCM is much more complex and takes a few hours to complete. This would add approx $250 to the cost of a spare key.
