A remote slot key, is a key which needs to be placed in the slot in the dash of the car to enable you to start the vehicle.

This proximity remote key can be in your pocket and you will still be able to open and start the car.

It is important to understand the difference between a remote slot key and a proximity remote key, as the technology inside the key will differ and the process to program each type differs dramatically.

Programming a remote slot key to a vehicle that has a proximity remote key already will disable the proximity function and so both keys will only then work when placed in the slot in the dash.

Programming Volvo keys is a slow process and it can take up to 4 hours on some vehicle to decrypt the data to retrieve the password. 

Programming of a proximity key like this one is charged at $245 in addition to the cost of the key.
