Range Rover aftermarket 5 button smart proximity remote key shell replacement

The rubber coating on the front of this style Range Rover 5 button proximity remote will sometimes come loose and peel off. This OEM style replacement case allows you to move all the working electronics from inside your old damaged key into this new case.

This style remote proximity key was used with a number of Range Rover models includig:

RANGE ROVER SPORT
RANGE ROVER EVOQUE
RANGE ROVER VOGUE

The kit consists of the front and back plastic sections of the case and the chrome side piece.

PLEASE NOTE THERE ARE NO ELECTRONICS OR EMERGENCY KEY BLADE INCLUDED IN THIS KIT.

You should always take great care when handling the electronic circuit board inside your key as if you damage it, the vehicle may no longer recognise the key and so may not start.

If the electronics in your key have failed and you need a complete new remtoe key, we can supply, cut and program one for you at our East Victoria Park workshop.

If you are not confident to swap over the circuit board of your old key into the new case we can also do that for you and test the battery and remote transmission for you.

To open the case you must first remove the chrome side piece. This has an arrow stamped into it so slide the chrome section in the direction of this arrow and it will be released from the plastic part of the case. You can then carefully open the plastic part to reveal the circuit board. 

The circuit board is normally secured to the front section of the case by 2 small plastic lugs or nodules which are melted on top of the board.

Carefully melt the tips of these lugs and you will be able to transfer the circuit board into the new case. If you have a soldering iron you can melt the top of the plastic lugs to secure it in place in the new case also.

We see many cases where these plastic lugs have been broken away from the case but are still stuck to the circuit board by people trying to change the battery in the key and not fully understanding what they are doing. If this is the case in your key. 

Carefully remove the broken lugs from your old circuit board. Melting the tips with a soldering iron is the easiest way but if you do not have a soldering iron,  gently pull on the large part of the lug which is on the front of the circuit board with some pliers and they should come away fairly easily.

Place circuit board in the new case locating the holes in the circuit board on the 2 plastic lugs in the new case.

These lugs locate and secure the circuit board inside the case to ensure the micro switches on the circuit board line up correctly with the rubber button pads on the outside of the case. Having the circuit board secured like this improved the function of the remote key.

Using a multimeter it is a good idea to test your battery and replace it with a good quality Japanese made Panasonic or Maxell battery if the voltage is below 3V.
