BMW 3 series E46 EWS system 3 button remote flip key

This product has been temporarily removed from sale as direct result of the Consumer Goods (Products Containing Button/Coin Batteries) Safety Standard 2020 which becomes enforceable on 22nd June 2022 and carries fines of up to $1million. 

All products that contain a button cell or coin type battery must be safety tested to confirm they comply with these new regulations. All button cell batteries must be in a new type of packaging with new labels. 

We are working with all of our suppliers to confirm this compliance before we make the product available for sale again. 

We should have had 18 months to get this compliance but sadly the ACCC did not inform our suppliers or us or pretty much any other industry and we only found out about this new law 4 weeks ago.

This stylish & sturdy 3 button flip key can be used as an alternative to the traditional BMW plastic headed remote keys used on the E46 generation of the BMW 3 series. The battery in the traditional keys is not replaceable where as this flip key uses a CR2032 battery and can be replaced easily. Being a flip key the key blade can fold away when not in use so it is not as uncomforatble when in your pocket. We do also sell an OEM style key which looks identical to the original BMW keys if you would prefer one of that style.

The cost of this flip key is also approx 50% of the cost of a genuine BMW key so it will save you hundreds on the dealer price. 

This key uses a PCF7935 transponder chip which was used on the BMW EWS 3 & 4 immobiliser systems. This chip uses a rolling code technology and will often read as cloneable in some key cloning tools but of course if cloned it will only start the car once and then stop working.

The remote in this key is pre-coded to suit 315MHz systems.

Programming this type of key requires the vehicle to be present at our workshop for around 45-60 minutes usually. The cost to cut the key and program the chip & remote are shown under compatoble items. This cost only applies to keys we supply and a surcharge will apply to keys supplied by the customer and we may refuse to use customer supplied keys at our discretion. 

This key is supplied with a CR2032 battery already fitted and you can order spare batteries from the Compatible Items section. The back of the flip key features a 14mm round recess for a logo sticker and aftermarket logo stickers are available for this key.

The door locks in these older BMW models are notorious for failing. As the vehicles are supplied with remote central locking the lock mechanism in the door is not very strong and so any kind of prolonged use and it seems to fail where the barrel just spins and does not lock or unlock the doors. If your remote fails it is very advisable to get a ew remote key before the door lock fails and you can no longer lock or unlock the vehicle.
