Toyota Prius 2003 - 2009 2 button Tokai Rika MDL B33EG proximity slot key 89904-47020

This genuine Toyota slot key is suited for Toyota Prius NHW20R models released between 2003-2009 which have proximity touch sensors on the door and where the fob does not need to be placed in the slot to start the vehicle.

To find the part number on your key, first remove the emergency key blade. To do this slide the little button on the bottom of the key in the direction of the arrow on it then slide the blade out of the key.

Next again slide the little button in the direction of the arrow and while doing this slide the back cover downward as shown in the attached photo. The back cover will slide all the way off to reveal the part sticker and the battery compartment cover which has 4 screws in it.

When refitting the back cover you will again need to slide the little button across to allow the back cover to go on fully.

Toyota Prius of the NHW20R series use a slot when the proximity function is not available due to the battery in the remote being flat. For models with proximity functions you do not need to use the fob in the slot to start the vehicle and you can lock or unlock the vehicle by using the sensor on the door handle.

A standard slot key behaves exactly like a regular transponder key, with the exception that instead of switching a mechanical key on, the slot key is inserted into the slot in the dash and a "Start" or "Power" button is pressed to turn the vehicle on.

If your Prius has a little button on the door handle that you can press to Lock & Unlock the vehicle, then it is fitted with the upgraded Smart Key or Proximity Key System. 

To work out if your key is a Master key or a Valet key simply go to the vehicle and unlock it. Get in and keep an eye on the flashing security light as you put your key in the slot. A Master key will extinguish the light immediately, while a valet key will extinguish the light after 2-3 seconds.

If no master key is available then the only way to add a key is to reset ECU using a diagnostic device and then program 2 new keys.

Dispose of used button/coin batteries immediately and safely. A battery can still be dangerous even when it can no longer operate the device. Place sticky tape around both sides of the battery and dispose of it immediately out of reach of children in an outside bin or recycle safely.
